Genesis 3:13-15
13 Then the Lord God said to the woman, “What is this you have done?”
The woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.”
14 So the Lord God said to the serpent, “Because you have done this,
“Cursed are you above all livestock
and all wild animals!
You will crawl on your belly
and you will eat dust
all the days of your life.
15 And I will put enmity
between you and the woman,
and between your offspring and hers;
he will crush your head,
and you will strike his heel.”
On Sunday we thought about how Advent is a time of expectation, waiting for the coming of Jesus. In many ways, Advent reflects the whole of the Bible in which we find and experience a longing for God and the expectation that one day he will send his Messiah/Christ to put things right and make all things new. I say all the Bible as it starts towards the beginning of the Bible. In his judgement on the snake, God announces that one day one of Eve’s offspring will ‘crush your head’. With the benefit of the New Testament, we know this looks forward to Jesus, who came to deal with sin and death, and through his incarnation, crucifixion and second coming will deal with evil in all its forms.
Thank you Father that you sent Jesus to deal with our sin and brokenness rather than just abandoning us to them!
