Bible Notes

Deuteronomy 18:15 (07.12.21)

Deuteronomy 18:15
15 The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among you, from your fellow Israelites. You must listen to him.

Moses is one of the great heroes of the Old Testament, and the Exodus, that great escape from under Egypt to their own land, the land promised by God to their forefather Abraham, is the founding story of the Jewish people. In many ways, this story acts as a sign, a pointer, to what was to come, an even greater rescue not from slavery under Pharaoh, but to sin and death, and Moses to a greater saviour, the one who would achieve this, Jesus himself. Indeed, many Christians would see Jesus as being referred to in today’s passage by Moses, even if Moses wouldn’t have fully grasped the implication of this words.

Spirit, in the busyness of Advent, help us to make space to listen to Jesus.
