1 John 4:13-16
13 This is how we know that we live in him and he in us: He has given us of his Spirit. 14 And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his Son to be the Savior of the world. 15 If anyone acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God, God lives in them and they in God. 16 And so we know and rely on the love God has for us.
Do you believe in the Christmas story, that God’s Son was born as one of us, come to bring us forgiveness and to bring us into his family? If so, then God now lives in you by his Spirit! It doesn’t matter how ‘Christian’ you are, what you may have done in the past, or whether you can quote Bible verses and go to church twice a day on Sunday or do a good deed a day – saying yes to him is enough, the rest is down to him. This also means he lives in you by his Spirit regardless of whether he works quietly in your life, or dramatically. You can rely on him. Of course this doesn’t mean that we don’t seek to live the best lives we can, of course we do, it’s how we say thank you to God and how we seek to play our part in transforming the world, but our status in him doesn’t depend on it.
Thank you Father for the gift of your Spirit! Help us to listen to him and be open to his work in and through us.
