Bible Notes

1 John 4:19-21 (17.12.21)

1 John 4:19-21
19 We love because he first loved us. 20 Whoever claims to love God yet hates a brother or sister is a liar. For whoever does not love their brother and sister, whom they have seen, cannot love God, whom they have not seen. 21 And he has given us this command: Anyone who loves God must also love their brother and sister.

‘We love because he first loved us.’ There are many motives to love others, but this has to be the primary one. We do not love to gain for ourselves, or to be popular, or to feel good, but we love because we have experienced God’s love and so know how amazing it is and want to share it with others. And of course, this is the perfect response to Christmas and the best way to celebrate.

Thank you for loving me, Father! Today I will try and love those I meet as a celebration of Christmas and your generosity to us.
