Luke 2:22-24 (17.01.22)

Luke 2:22-24
22 When the time came for the purification rites required by the Law of Moses, Joseph and Mary took him to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord 23 (as it is written in the Law of the Lord, “Every firstborn male is to be consecrated to the Lord”), 24 and to offer a sacrifice in keeping with what is said in the Law of the Lord: “a pair of doves or two young pigeons.”

One of the themes of Old Testament worship was when God blesses you, you give the first of that blessing back to him as a thanksgiving offering. Mary and Joseph were blessed with a son, Jesus, their firstborn boy, and so they took him to the Temple to consecrate him to God, recognising that he was a gift from him, giving thanks for him, and praying that he would be used for God’s glory.

What has God given you recently? Give thinks and commit to seeking to use that gift for his glory and to serve others.
