Luke 2:41-43
41 Every year Jesus’ parents went to Jerusalem for the Festival of the Passover. 42 When he was twelve years old, they went up to the festival, according to the custom. 43 After the festival was over, while his parents were returning home, the boy Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem, but they were unaware of it.
This story starts with God’s People gathering to celebrate and remember the story of the Exodus, and God rescuing them from slavery in Egypt. I wonder what Jerusalem was like when so many people flocked there to join in? Must have been quite an experience! It is good to have such punctuation in our daily lives that makes us stop, remember and celebrate what God has done for us – it is all too easy to go into autopilot and ‘forget’ otherwise. Of course, this particular festival became memorable for another reason…
What has God done for you? For us? Give thanks, and share it with others so that they too can appreciate our God and celebrate with you.
