Serving Jesus in Our Community

Bible Notes

Luke 2:44-45 (01.02.22)

Luke 2:44-45
44 Thinking he was in their company, they travelled on for a day. Then they began looking for him among their relatives and friends. 45 When they did not find him, they went back to Jerusalem to look for him.

On Sunday I wondered about those times when we feel like we’ve lost Jesus in our lives and how we might find him again in worship. Reflecting on verse 44 further today, I wonder if it also speaks to those times when we simply trundle on in our faith out of habit, not really giving ourselves to it but going through the motions. It’s an easy thing for any of us to slip into. We don’t set out to do it but complacency sets in and we gradually drift away from Jesus unawares because we’re not looking at him.

Do you feel like you’re going through the motions? Ask for the Spirit to stir your faith and to help you see Jesus. Are you eyes fixed on him? Ask the Spirit to protect you from distraction – even by good things.
