1 Peter 2:4-6 (NIVUK)
4 As you come to him, the living Stone – rejected by humans but chosen by God and precious to him – 5 you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. 6 For in Scripture it says:
‘See, I lay a stone in Zion,
a chosen and precious cornerstone,
and the one who trusts in him
will never be put to shame.’
The church is made of living stones, built on the foundation of Jesus. He is critical, without him the whole thing collapses. Who we are and our values grow out of him. It’s not just Jesus that is important, though, you can’t have a building made of a cornerstone and one other brick! A building requires many bricks, just as the congregation needs members. Everybody counts!
Thank you Father for making us part of today’s temple, your presence in the world.
