Serving Jesus in Our Community

Bible Notes

MArk 4:26-29 (14.03.22)

Mark 4:26-29 (NIVUK)
26 He also said, ‘This is what the kingdom of God is like. A man scatters seed on the ground. 27 Night and day, whether he sleeps or gets up, the seed sprouts and grows, though he does not know how. 28 All by itself the soil produces corn – first the stalk, then the ear, then the full grain in the ear. 29 As soon as the corn is ripe, he puts the sickle to it, because the harvest has come.’

To some, talking about church growth may feel as if it belongs more in the boardroom than in church. Talking about church growth can feel as if its all about getting ‘bums on seats’, all about numbers and not about faith, about marketing and strategy, or ambition, rather than love. Jesus, however, makes it clear that the kingdom is all about growth. We aim to grow the kingdom – but not in order to look good, or because of personal ambition, but because we want as many people as possible to come to know God because its the best thing for them and because we want God to receive the love he deserves.

Father, how can I sow kingdom seeds in the day that awaits me?
