Mark 16:8 (NIVUK)
8 Trembling and bewildered, the women went out and fled from the tomb. They said nothing to anyone, because they were afraid.
This is the last verse of Mark’s Gospel.* To me, this is one of the verses that points to the authenticity of the text; this is not a verse I would choose to end the story on, I’d want to end with them meeting Jesus, or at least something more positive than the women being bewildered. But what it does make clear is the dramatic, unexpected, miraculous nature of the resurrection. People simply do not just come back to life, not from something like this. We can’t simply move on from the Gospels to the letters in the New Testament, something earth shaking and life changing has happened and we have to sit up, take notice, and try to come to terms with it.
Help me to grasp something of the enormity and significance of Jesus’ resurrection.
