Serving Jesus in Our Community

Bible Notes

Isaiah 26:19 (20.04.22)

Isaiah 26:19 (NIVUK)
But your dead will live, Lord;
their bodies will rise –
let those who dwell in the dust
wake up and shout for joy –
your dew is like the dew of the morning;
the earth will give birth to her dead.

As we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus this week, I’m reminded of this verse that is tucked away in Isaiah 26. Isaiah has been thinking about the difference between human leaders and God as their leader, and amongst his analysis is this surprising verse. Unlike with human leaders, those who follow God as their leader will one day know resurrection. I wonder how Isaiah understood this? Did he grasp the enormity of what he was glimpsing? Did he have any inkling when he wrote it, that it would be fulfilled through the death and resurrection of God’s Son?

Thank you Father that we can know your refreshing in our lives, like the morning dew, both now, and beyond the grave.
