2 Corinthians 5:14-15 (NIVUK)
14 For Christ’s love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died. 15 And he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again.
‘Compels’ is a strong word. Christ’s love for us compelled him to follow the path of the cross. Through being united to him through faith, this means that we too have in a sense died, died to our old broken life and relationships, especially with God. HIs resurrection means that we have been raised to new life, and with it new relationships, including with God! In light of this gift, Paul talks about being compelled in his life and mission by Christ’s love.
Father, give us a deeper sense of Jesus’ love and what he did for us, so that we too may be more deeply moved to act.
