Philippians 3:20-21 (NIVUK)
…we eagerly await a Saviour from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, 21 who, by the power that enables him to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body.
Our resurrection hope is that when we are raised to new life, we will be given bodies like our current ones, but without the impact of wear and tear and aging, bodies as they were supposed to be in the beginning. At last we will know physical and mental wholeness or shalom. Of course, we don’t need to wait until then to see foretastes of this as the Spirit works in, amongst and through us. When we pray for healing, we’re praying for a taste of our future hope now. What else can we do to demonstrate glimpses of God’s coming world to those around us? How can we care for those who are struggling with mental or physical health problems, and for those caring for them? How does this hope change the way we respond to our own struggles?
Thank you Father that we can live knowing that one day our struggles with bad health will be over and you will raise us to new bodies. Help us to demonstrate that hope in how we deal with suffering and those who suffer now.
