Philippians 3:7-9 (NIVUK)
7 But whatever were gains to me I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. 8 What is more, I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them garbage, that I may gain Christ 9 and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ – the righteousness that comes from God on the basis of faith.
I remember as a child being fascinated by the Russian Dolls my parents had. I spent hours playing with them, lining up the tops and bottoms of each figure, and then concealing then inside each other. From the outside you’d see just a single doll, but the truth was that whatever happened to the big one also happened to all the secret ones inside. That’s exactly what Paul means about our being ‘found in Christ’, or simply ‘in Christ’. What’s true of Jesus becomes true of us because we’re hidden in him, including having a relationship with him.
Thank you Jesus that you have welcomed us into your life by faith!
