Romans 8:19-21 (NIVUK)
19 For the creation waits in eager expectation for the children of God to be revealed. 20 For the creation was subjected to frustration, not by its own choice, but by the will of the one who subjected it, in hope 21 that the creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay and brought into the freedom and glory of the children of God.
Some worldviews place too little value on the physical world, it is ‘evil’ and to be escaped. Other place too much value on the physical world, the physical world is all there is, or is seen as ‘god’ in some sense. The biblical worldview walks a middle line. The physical world as we experience it has been spoilt, is broken and is decaying. Does this mean it is worthless and should be ‘escaped’ in some way? Not at all, a day will come when God will liberate it, rescue it from its brokenness and pollution, and transform it.
Father, thank you for this world you have given us. Help us to find that balance of caring for it, and loving it, being good stewards, because it is your creation, without putting it in your place and losing sight of the one who made it.
