Psalm 12:3-4 (12.07.22)

Psalm 12:3-4 NIVUK
3 May the Lord silence all flattering lips
and every boastful tongue –
4 those who say,
‘By our tongues we will prevail;
our own lips will defend us – who is lord over us?’

Perhaps one response to the loss of trust and the perceived culture of dishonesty, alongside our own repentance, is to pray, to pray that God will remove the influence of those who use words deceptively for their own ends. But if we’re going to do this, we need to do so humbly, aware of our own failings, and with commitment to try and model honesty in our speech, speaking as if we’re representing God with every word.

Father, you are Lord over us. Help us to turn from lies to truth, from slander to respect, from self-promoting to encouraging others.
