Colossians 3:16 (NIVUK)
16 Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts.
This week we have been thinking of gratitude and being thankful. We thought about what God is doing in our lives and given thanks for others, and thought about how thankfulness is an antidote to cynicism, pessimism and anxiety. What we haven’t mentioned so far, not explicitly, is the greatest motivator for our gratitude, the message of Jesus. How can we not be grateful when we remind ourselves of his love of us, his sacrifice for us, the relationship he has brought us into and our hope in him.
Jesus, what can I give, what can I bring
To so faithful a Friend, to so loving a King?
Savior, what can be said, what can be sung
As a praise of Your name for the things You have done?
Oh, my words could not tell, not even in part
Of the debt of love that is owed by this thankful heart
