Psalm 123:1-3 (NIVUK)
1 The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.
2 He makes me lie down in green pastures,
he leads me beside quiet waters,
3 he refreshes my soul.
I lack nothing.
What does this mean? That we have everything? Or everything we want? Self-evidently not.
That we have all we need? Just the bear essentials? I’m not sure that feels right either, God isn’t a stingy god.
To me this psalm talks of contentment, in him we have everything we need to find peace and a sense of wholeness. I reckon that’s a whole lot better than the first two options.
Father, I know the secret of contentment lies in knowing you and resting in you. Teach me to be still in you, and to stop striving for more and more.
