John 2:1-2 (NIVUK)
On the third day a wedding took place at Cana in Galilee. Jesus’ mother was there, 2 and Jesus and his disciples had also been invited to the wedding. 3 When the wine was gone, Jesus’ mother said to him, ‘They have no more wine.’
Having recently helped organise and hold a family wedding, this is one of those stories that has taken on new meaning to me. I love what these opening verses tell us about Jesus. Here he is, getting involved in daily human life; he’s out and about with his mum and friends, celebrating a wedding in the local community. Normal human stuff. He’s not aloof, but fully one of us, living amongst us, as one of us.
Thank you Jesus for your love that lead you to become one of us, even celebrating wedding with us, even ones where the wine runs out…
