John 2:7-9 (NIVUK)
7 Jesus said to the servants, ‘Fill the jars with water’; so they filled them to the brim. 8 Then he told them, ‘Now draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet.’ They did so, 9 and the master of the banquet tasted the water that had been turned into wine…
It’s a miracle! Water turned into wine! Of course, a greater miracle is to come but this is a sign that something is happening, that life around Jesus is not going to be life as usual. For now, however, what intrigues me is not so much the water into wine (although I love that it’s that way around), but that Jesus didn’t do it on his own, the servants had to play their part.
Jesus is alive and at work in the world today through his Spirit, in dramatic ways and small. Are you willing to play your part, to be obedient and ‘fill jars’ if he asks you to?
