Ephesians 12:1
The Lord had said to Abram, ‘Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you.
Abram’s story begins with this instruction, which is full of implications. Go, leave your old life, your old neighbourhood, the things that used to be important to you, your old customs and traditions, your culture, and go somewhere new, somewhere different, somewhere unknown. Like the disciples when Jesus met them and simply said ‘come follow me’, it is impressive that Abram is prepared to do just that, to get up and go. That takes faith and courage.
Father, you call us into the new week with you. Help me to gather the faith and courage to go where you take me and to do what you call me too.
