Bible Notes

Luke 1:1-4 (21.11.22)

I wasn’t sure that Genesis 19 made for an easy set of devotional Bible notes for this week, and so, seeing as Advent begins next Sunday, I thought I’d go to the early verses of Luke to whet our appetites for what is to come…

Luke 1:1-4 (NIVUK)
1 Many have undertaken to draw up an account of the things that have been fulfilled among us, 2 just as they were handed down to us by those who from the first were eyewitnesses and servants of the word. 3 With this in mind, since I myself have carefully investigated everything from the beginning, I too decided to write an orderly account for you, most excellent Theophilus, 4 so that you may know the certainty of the things you have been taught.

The Bible and our faith is built upon the accounts of God’s activity amongst us. I’m intrigued by the opening verse, and that many drew up accounts of what they saw God doing in and through Jesus alongside the four Gospels were chosen for the Bible. People obviously saw writing these accounts down as an important way to reflect on what had happened and as a way to pass it on to others.

If you were to write an account of your experiences of God, what would you write? What would you want others to know?
