Bible Notes

Acts 13:34 (11.01.23)

Acts 13:34
The fact that God raised him from the dead, never to decay, is stated in these words: “I will give you the holy and sure blessings promised to David.”

Paul is telling his hearers in Antioch that the resurrection of Jesus is the fulfilment of what God promised David (in Psalm 16). David is the central point of Matthew’s genealogy, yet when we read about David’s life we find that he was a scheming bloodthirsty warrior, an adulterer and murderer, and for whom his own sons had little respect. But David knew what it meant to acknowledge his faults and confess his sins and so to discover God’s forgiveness and mercy. So can we!

Lord, when I look in a mirror I see a person who doesn’t deserve your love; but you welcome those who recognise their inadequacy, and instead discover your compassion and grace.
