Luke 12:27
Consider how the lilies grow. They do not labour or spin. Yet I tell you, not even Solomon in all his splendour was dressed like one of these.
One of the steps in Matthew’s genealogy takes us from David to Solomon. Solomon started out so well, asking for wisdom instead of wealth, and receiving both. But he had a major weakness – women! His hundreds of wives and concubines turned his heart away, and forty years of peace was replaced by attacks from outside and even from his own officials (1 Kings 11). As a result the kingdom was torn in two. Yet Jesus mentions none of this when talking about Solomon – only his splendour!
Lord, like Solomon, I am not a good advert for Jesus. Yet I know that you will welcome and reward me, because all my failings were dealt with on the cross. Thank-you!
