1 John 4:10-12 NIVUK
10 This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. 11 Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. 12 No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us.
To grasp the nature of love we have to start here, the Father sending the Son as a sacrifice to restore us to him. This is the definition of love, its supreme demonstration. For an act to be truly loving it needs in some way to resonate with this, and point back to it – hence, by loving others, others can see and know God’s love through us.
Lord, I cannot complete your love, but I can invite you to come and love through me.
