…God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them. 17 This is how love is made complete among us so that we will have confidence on the day of judgment: in this world we are like Jesus. 18 There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.
God is love. This three word phrase is, I believe, the heart of the Bible. If God is love, where God is, love must be too, and where love is, God must be there too. This means that if we learn (with the Spirit’s help) to love others, then not only are we loving, but we’re becoming like Christ, and God is with us – we are ‘ok with God’. We don’t need to worry about measuring ourselves against rules, or comparing ourselves to others, this simple question is enough – are we learning to love?
Father, help me not to worry about how I’m doing or if I’m good enough, but to learn from Christ what it means to love.
