1 John 4:19-21 NIVUK
19 We love because he first loved us. 20 Whoever claims to love God yet hates a brother or sister is a liar. For whoever does not love their brother and sister, whom they have seen, cannot love God, whom they have not seen. 21 And he has given us this command: Anyone who loves God must also love their brother and sister.
It’s hard to know what to say about these closing verses of 1 John 4 as they speak so clearly for themselves how can we add to them! They present the true test of our faith. This is not the doctrinal stance we hold nor the amount of theological knowledge we’ve accumulated, it is not the number of services we attend or the quality of our prayers, but the simply how we treat others: do we love our brothers and sisters. If we love God, this cannot help but reveal itself in our relationships with each other.
Take some time to give thanks for our family and to pray for them.
