Serving Jesus in Our Community

Bible Notes

1 Peter 2:20-21 (10.02.23)

1 Peter 2:20-21 (NIVUK)
20 …if you suffer for doing good and you endure it, this is commendable before God. 21 To this you were called, because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps.

Sometimes I worry that we can get hung up on seeking God’s guidance. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying we shouldn’t pray for God’s wisdom and plan for our life together as the church or when we’re dispersed as representatives of the church in our daily lives. What I’m saying is that sometimes God doesn’t specify the destination, instead he says follow me, follow Jesus with the Spirit’s help. Remember Abraham, he didn’t know where he was going, he just had to follow. The same with the disciples, ‘come follow me, said Jesus, not go here or there. Often I think God’s guidance to us is simply look at Jesus, be inspired by him, and follow and see where that takes you.

Be Thou my vision – Spirit, help us to see Jesus, and to follow.
