Serving Jesus in Our Community

Bible Notes

2 Corinthians 1:18-20 (28.02.23)

2 Corinthians 1:18-20 (NIVUK)
18 But as surely as God is faithful, our message to you is not ‘Yes’ and ‘No’. 19 For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, who was preached among you by us – by me, Silas and Timothy – was not ‘Yes’ and ‘No’, but in him it has always been ‘Yes’. 20 For no matter how many promises God has made, they are ‘Yes’ in Christ. And so through him the ‘Amen’ is spoken by us to the glory of God.

How fantastic this verse is. God’s promises are always reliable, no matter how many there are. He doesn’t keep them or not on a whim, when he makes a promise, he keeps it. What’s more, I love the idea that the promises are yes in Christ – not just that they are fulfilled or resolved in and by him, but that they are a yes, positive; God is for us, God has chosen us. Finally, we have a part to play in their fulfillment, Christ achieves them, but they find their working out in us and our lives, as Paul puts, as we respond with our amen, or yes in response.

To your yes in us in Christ, today I respond – yes!
