Genesis 24:47-49 (NIVUK)
47 “I asked her, ‘Whose daughter are you?’
“She said, ‘The daughter of Bethuel son of Nahor, whom Milkah bore to him.’
“Then I put the ring in her nose and the bracelets on her arms, 48 and I bowed down and worshiped the Lord. I praised the Lord, the God of my master Abraham, who had led me on the right road to get the granddaughter of my master’s brother for his son. 49 Now if you will show kindness and faithfulness to my master, tell me; and if not, tell me, so I may know which way to turn.”
I love the way the servant doesn’t separate his faith from his daily life, but is alert to God being at work in it. He sees finding Rebekah not as an accident but as an example of God’s faithfulness and kindness towards Abraham, and responds in thanksgiving, by bowing down, worshipping and praising the Lord. His expectation that seeing God’s kindness and faithfulness at work should draw out the same qualities in others also caught my attention here – he expects Laban, Rebekah’s brother, to be kind and faithful towards him and his master Abraham.
Father, help me to see your faithfulness and kindness in the events of today so that I may give you the worship you’re due and be changed by them, to become more kind and faithful myself.
