Serving Jesus in Our Community

Bible Notes

Genesis 24:59-61 (16.03.23)

Genesis 24:59-61 (NIVUK)
59 So they sent their sister Rebekah on her way, along with her nurse and Abraham’s servant and his men. 60 And they blessed Rebekah and said to her,
“Our sister, may you increase
to thousands upon thousands;
may your offspring possess
the cities of their enemies.”
61 Then Rebekah and her attendants got ready and mounted the camels and went back with the man. So the servant took Rebekah and left.

If you grew up watching TV in the same generation as me, you may well be familiar with the quote ‘I love it when a plan comes together’, the catchphrase of Hannibal from The A-Team. This is one of those moments! The blessing said over Abraham’s future daughter-in-law, Rebekah, aligns perfectly with God’s promises to him of a vast family that will occupy the land he shows them. It is hard not to see God’s hand behind the scenes bringing things together. Whilst our futures aren’t set in stone, we have free will, God is at work in our lives, working his purposes out. We can trust in his faithfulness and power, even when all looks bleak or lost.

‘Your Kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.’
