John 2:1-2 (NIV)
“Now there was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a member of the Jewish ruling council. He came to Jesus at night and said, ‘Rabbi, we know you are a teacher who has come from God. For no-one could perform the miraculous signs you are doing if God were not with him’.”
At this point in time Nicodemus recognised that Jesus was really special, but had not yet come to accept that he was the Messiah sent by God to give life in a way that the Law of Moses could not. Perhaps you and I also went through a stage of being aware that Jesus is not just another prophet, not just another good man, but we didn’t yet have that full understanding of who Jesus is and why he came. Maybe that understanding is still developing even now. I thank God that I heard the Gospel from a young age, and eventually knew, as Nicodemus eventually realised, that I had to give my life to the one who came to save me and give me eternal life. Two-thirds of a century later I am still a work in progress, but “I know whom I have believed, and am convinced that he is able to guard what I have entrusted to him for that day.” (2 Timothy 1.12)
Thank you Jesus for the journey you are taking me on.
