Psalm 47:5-7 (NIVUK)
5 God has ascended amid shouts of joy,
the Lord amid the sounding of trumpets.
6 Sing praises to God, sing praises;
sing praises to our King, sing praises.
7 For God is the King of all the earth;
sing to him a psalm of praise.
As we’ve thought about Jesus’ coronation/ascension this week, a number of Psalms seem relevant. Like the music that was arranged for King Charles’ coronation, many of these are believed to have been written to celebrate the coronation of Israel’s kings. Psalm 47 comes to mind, can’t you imagine it being chanted or sung on such an occasion! A fanfare, crowds gathering to celebrate, the king being crowned. Of course, as verse 7 suggests, this looks beyond the kings of Israel, to the king of Israel, Jesus, king of the earth.
Take some time to praise Jesus, our king.
