John 4:28-30 (NIVUK)
28 Then, leaving her water jar, the woman went back to the town and said to the people, 29 ‘Come, see a man who told me everything I’ve ever done. Could this be the Messiah?’ 30 They came out of the town and made their way towards him.
I find it quite significant that so many of the ‘evangelists’ in the New Testament, the witnesses pointing to Jesus, are not employed church workers, or respected figures, but normal everyday folk. They don’t have finely honed theology to share, or watertight arguments, just their stories. This woman is one of them. She may be seen as an outsider, inappropriate, or not good enough, but this doesn’t matter. She simply tells her story, not demanding that she’s right, nor criticising others’ views, but simply saying this is what I experienced, what do you think?
Spirit, help me to find the freedom to share my story of Jesus.
