Revelation 1:17-18 (29.06.23)

Revelation 1:17-18 (NIVUK)
17 When I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead. Then he placed his right hand on me and said: ‘Do not be afraid. I am the First and the Last. 18 I am the Living One; I was dead, and now look, I am alive for ever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and Hades.

I am the First and the Last. Out of interest I looked up these terms in the original Greek. They are the πρῶτος (prōtos) and the ἔσχατος (eschatos). To me these terms suggest all sorts of things. Prōtos: the principle or most important, the prototype or progenitor, the original, the origin, our inspiration and template, the one from who we are derived, our source, our creator. Eschatos: an echo, the farthest, final, extreme, the end, the resolution, conclusion. All life has its beginning and conclusion in Jesus. We are found in him and have no meaning outside him. We are made to reflect his image and live according to his purpose.

Jesus, may my life echo yours.
