Colossian 1:13 (NIVUK)
13 For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, 14 in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.
As a family we’ve been enjoying watching Spooks recently on iPlayer, a BBC drama about a group of MI5 agents, working as spies to protect the people of Britain. Part of their work involves turning significant people in ‘enemy’ countries, making them double agents so that they might leak important information to Britain. Occasionally they have to rescue these agents, and bring them to safety in Britain because their cover has been blown. When they arrive here, however, they’re always treated with a level of suspicion, are they really on the UK’s side, or is there a risk that they might be bluffing and passing back sensitive information to the other side. This verse feels a little like that but with one exception. Through Christ, God has conducted a rescue mission, snatching us from the enemy’s control. When we arrive in his kingdom, however, we are not treated with suspicion, we’re not interrogated or treated as strangers. No, we are redeemed and forgiven, welcomed with outstretched arms as citizens and family!
Thank you Father that you have welcomed us into your family fully and completely, with no hesitation or restraint!
