Luke 12:18-19 NIVUK
18 ‘Then he said, “This is what I’ll do. I will tear down my barns and build bigger ones, and there I will store my surplus grain. 19 And I’ll say to myself, ‘You have plenty of grain laid up for many years. Take life easy; eat, drink and be merry.’”

You might be reading these notes this week and thinking Ben’s a killjoy and a ‘puritan’. Let me put the record straight, there is nothing wrong with having things and wealth and money. If I’m honest, I have an abundance of stuff! I also have nothing against enjoying ourselves and what we have, after all, Jesus was known to enjoy a party, and all these good things ultimately come from God’s generous creativity and provision. The question is, however, what is our key objective in life? We’re called to love God and love our neighbour, that’s our priority: it’s okay to party on the way, as long as partying doesn’t become the our guiding aim.

Spirit, help me with this balancing act.
