Luke 1:48-50 (NIVUK)
…From now on all generations will call me blessed,
49     for the Mighty One has done great things for me –
holy is his name.
50 His mercy extends to those who fear him,
from generation to generation.

One of the reasons I wanted to reflect on Christmas ‘through Mary’s eyes’ this year was that in our stream of Christianity, we tend to avoid talking about her in response to those who accord her too high a status. She is, however, a highly significant figure, not because she is ‘superhuman’, but because God chose her for this crucial task through which, even all these generations later, we are blessed and can know God’s mercy. Just as she came to know the wonder of God, through her son, we can too.

Thank you Father that through Mary you have blessed us with your Son and through him your mercy.
