Ephesians 5:11-12 (NIVUK)
11 Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them. 12 It is shameful even to mention what the disobedient do in secret.

Exposing the film in a traditional camera bleached the resulting images when developed, spoiling them. Light does something similar to our dark behaviours as well, only not as destructive. Instead the light reveals them so they can be transformed into the more positive and fruitful deeds of light. It is important to recognise that the exposure Paul talks about is not an accusing judgemental finger, but the humble act of someone turning themselves towards God’s grace – this is something we do for ourselves rather than do to others, within a supportive community with the common aim of following God’s ways.

Father, help us to have the courage to open ourselves to the grace of your Spirit, so that we might live more light-filled, Christ-like, lives.
