Hebrews 6:7-8 (NIVUK)
7 Land that drinks in the rain often falling on it and that produces a crop useful to those for whom it is farmed receives the blessing of God. 8 But land that produces thorns and thistles is worthless and is in danger of being cursed. In the end it will be burned.

Having been reading about Britain’s lost rainforests of late, and how allowing scrub to develop whose thorns protect young saplings from being nibbled is a vital step for their regeneration, I’m tempted to disagree with verse 8’s assertion that such land is worthless. In fairness, though, it is talking about the lands productiveness for a farmer rather than a nature point of view, and that’s what Paul is talking about. Verse 8 can be interpreted in different ways, but God’s desire is clear, he wants us to be fruitful.

Spirit, come work in me so that I may show your fruit in my life.
