1 Chronicles 22:7-8 (NIVUK)
7 David said to Solomon: ‘My son, I had it in my heart to build a house for the Name of the Lord my God. 8 But this word of the Lord came to me: “You have shed much blood and have fought many wars. You are not to build a house for my Name, because you have shed much blood on the earth in my sight.
David wanted to build a temple to honour God in Jerusalem, however, God said this task wasn’t for him but for his son, Solomon to do, because unlike David, Solomon did not have blood on his hands. Now, we aren’t David, and we’re not looking to build ‘The Temple’, but I can’t help but as we continue praying about the church redevelopment this week, that this passage is a reminder to take some time to bring our sins before God and seek his forgiveness. This is not only a good thing to do for its own sake, but will help us to hear more clearly what he might have to say to us.
Father, I come before you this morning knowing that I continue to think and do harmful things, and fail to acknowledge you in all my ways. It is the same for us as a church. Trusting in Jesus, we ask for your forgiveness, and pray that through your Spirit, you’ll help us live more as you would have us do.
