Colossians 3:8-10 (NIVUK)
8 But now you must also rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips. 9 Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices 10 and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator.
The Euros are coming up, and Gareth Southgate has selected those who will be in his squad. It must be fantastic to be amongst those who are chosen and who are given the team kit and receive a ‘cap’. However, that’s not the end of the story. Those who are chosen are expected to play for their team. It’s the same for us. We have responded in faith to God’s invitation through Christ, and have been made part of his family. As a result, God has given us his Spirit who restores his image in us. This doesn’t mean that we can simply kick back our shoes and let God do all the work! We’re expected to play and do our best at representing him, just as a player is expected to give their all on the pitch.
Father, I want to give my best for you. Help me to put aside my old life and live instead for you every moment of my life.
