1 John 3:1-3 (NIVUK)
1 See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him. 2 Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when Christ appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is. 3 All who have this hope in him purify themselves, just as he is pure.

This week we have thought about how we were made in God’s image (Genesis 1:26), and how this is expressed most fully when we live in good relationships with each other in community (Genesis 1:27). We have thought about how this image has become tarnished in us through sin, but how drawing close to God brings it out more clearly (2 Corinthians 3:18). We have also thought about how we have a part to play in that renewal of God’s image in living in response to God’s grace (Colossians 3:8-10). Finally, we have the hope that the work that the Spirit has started in renewing that image in us, will one day be made complete. When Christ returns, we will see him, the perfect representation of God (Hebrews 1:3), and we will be like him.

Come Lord Jesus, we long to see you!
