Despite the weather suggesting otherwise, the summer season is almost upon us. As a congregation we make the deliberate choice to reduce our programme over August to give space to rest and refuel, and to enable people to take time off with family and friends without feeling guilty about being absent. Our Sunday services become all-age services to give our children’s workers a break, and we pause our prayer meetings, toddler group and Bible study. The foodbank and Drop-In continue as usual.
Alongside the pause in our usual activities, we also run a series of ‘summer socials’, with the aim of deepening our relationships with each other. We planning to do this again this summer. Plans are still being worked upon, but we’re kicking off with an open air service and picnic with our friends from Rosedale Community Church at Wormley Scout Hut, on the 21st July. The season will come to a close with a celebration of 25 years of our minister, Ben Quant, having been at the church (details tbc.). What’s going to happen in between? We’re open to suggestions, with there being talk of going bowling and some sort of treasure hunt, and table tennis and board game evenings are always a possibility. Do you have an idea? Let us know!
Our hope is that by having this break, we’ll be refreshed and refocussed, enabling us to press on in our work of serving God and our communities.
