1 Peter 1:3-5 (NIVUK)
3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade. This inheritance is kept in heaven for you, 5 who through faith are shielded by God’s power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time.

This passage reminds me of the Israelites at the time of the Exodus. They were protected by the blood of a sacrificed lamb smeared on their doorposts. This kept them safe until Pharaoh set them free. Through our faith in Jesus, not only do we have an inheritance awaiting us which will not perish or spoil, but God protects or shields us until we receive it. This doesn’t mean life is without its bumps and trials – that’s why we need shielding – but God will bring us through them to it.

Thank you that we can look forward with certainty, knowing that we are in your care.
