Psalm 34:11-14 (NIVUK)
11 Come, my children, listen to me;
I will teach you the fear of the Lord.
12 Whoever of you loves life
and desires to see many good days,
13 keep your tongue from evil
and your lips from telling lies.
14 Turn from evil and do good;
seek peace and pursue it.

These notes were written last week while two things were very much on my mind: getting ready to go away for week’s holiday, and the rioting in various towns and cities in the UK. With this context, their theme of ‘peace’ is perhaps not surprising. These verses from Psalm 34 suggest that peace isn’t something that just happens, but something that needs to be sought for, nurtured, or worked on, and involves a deliberate turning away from evil and a turning towards good/God.

This morning I take the decision to turn towards you Lord, to seek you and your peace.
