Philippians 4:12-13 (NIVUK)
12 I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. 13 I can do all this through him who gives me strength.
On Sunday, both Janet and Tim talked of the generosity they’d seen amongst our sisters and brothers in Sierra Leone, despite the fact that many there (but not all) have so little. The secret Paul refers to is discovering that God can and does provide for our needs, a discovery that frees us from the need to strive for wealth or hold tightly to what we do have, and a discovery that those with lots and those with little can share.
Father, give us the faith to trust in your provision and the freedom in this to be generous with what you give us.
