Psalm 130:5-6 (NIVUK)
5 I wait for the Lord, my whole being waits,
and in his word I put my hope.
6 I wait for the Lord
more than watchmen wait for the morning,
more than watchmen wait for the morning.
Here the Psalmist expresses another fundamental aspect of prayer, that of waiting on God. Prayer recognises that we both need God and desire him, that we are lacking, lost even, without him. Prayer is not about our words, it is about God’s response, and is incomplete without him; there is a sense in which prayer without God’s participation is simply words.
Lord, we long to hear from you.
