Psalm 130:7-8 (NIVUK)
7 Israel, put your hope in the Lord,
for with the Lord is unfailing love
and with him is full redemption.
8 He himself will redeem Israel
from all their sins.
What does it mean that God’s love is unfailing? Does this mean that he always achieves what he longs to do, that he never fails? I don’t think so. I think connecting the word unfailing with the word love is fascinating. True love is not coercive, it is invitational. True love doesn’t force itself on us but invites us into a relationship. True love is based on free will. I think, therefore, that unfailing love is love that does not hesitate, that keeps on going, that does not falter. God’s love to us is constant. It’s also complete – he invites us into a deep relationship with him, not an arms length one; with him there is full redemption from all our sins. This is who we’re pray to.
What love you show us Lord!
