Serving Jesus in Our Community

Wormley Free Church Does Harvest

This weekend as a church we celebrated Harvest. Traditionally this is a time to thank God for the food that’s been grown and harvested. Recognising that living in a semi-urban setting, many of us don’t directly take part in the harvesting of food, we also thought about how the Bible talks about a harvest of raise and thanksgiving, a harvest of character or virtue, and a harvest of people who have discovered God and come into his family.

Our celebrations were in two parts. On Friday evening we came together for an evening of fun as a community, to get to know each other better and enjoy each other’s company. At the heart of this was ‘Wormley Free Church does TaskMaster’, an evening of crazy and creative tasks as in the Channel Four series Taskmaster. Fun was had!

Your challenge is to take a photo of someone with a beard, eyebrows and moustache made out of a slice of bread!

On Sunday morning, our service had a harvest theme, with a collection of food for Broxbourne Foodbank as well as reflection on other forms of harvest.

A poem by our minister inspired by Friday’s fun:

We Won

Tonight we quizzed,
Wore bread, threw tea,
Hung necklaces
Of shoes in glee.

Tonight we cheered
And did our best,
Played games with bread,
Bemused our guests.

Tonight we made
Ourselves complete
And utter fools
With spoons and feet.

Tonight we won,
Yes everyone had fun,
And when we left
We left as one.
